IMPORTANT: BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING TONIGHT: The Richard Montgomery Cluster is providing testimony on the Superintendent’s Recommended Capital Improvements Program (CIP) budget tonight at 6:30 pm at the Carver Educational Services Building, 850 Hungerford Drive in Rockville. The CIP Budget DOES NOT INCLUDE FUNDING FOR THE RICHARD MONTGOMERY HIGH SCHOOL (RM) ADDITION even though the plan and feasibility study for the RM addition was completed and shared with the community la...st year. Superintendent Jack Smith did not recommend funding an addition at RM. Yet, right now, RM is 211 students over capacity and is expected to be 438 students over in the coming six years of the CIP, when many of our students will be in high school.
Additionally, we also need your help to support the shell build out for Richard Montgomery Elementary School #5. The Superintendent recommended the shell build out in the CIP, and we now need the Board of Education (BOE) to move forward with increasing capacity at the new school from 602 to 740.
The time to act is now. It takes time for these projects to be developed and we want to ensure our students have an adequate and safe place to learn. Parents and students are encouraged to attend tonight's hearing between 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm (when RM testimonies are likely to take place) to support our Cluster and our School. Wearing RPES Spirit Gear and making signs such as "RMHS - FUND THE ADDITION" or "RMES #5 – BUILD OUT THE SHELL" is also encouraged. The BOE does notice the show of support from individual schools and clusters at these meetings. Your presence makes a difference!
Thank you for your support. Please also consider sending an email to the Board of Education about the issues above and/or the RM ES #5 Boundary Study at: email@example.com.
